Quick guide – Import Policy Template, Policy Setting and Link GPO

1.        Backup Domain PolicyDefinitions folder (Not Local Policy)
C:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol\boci-pru.local\Policies\PolicyDefinitions
2.        Copy Policy Template (ADMX and ADML) to PolicyDefinaitions folder
3.        Open Group Policy Management Console
4.        Right Click “Group Policy Objects” and select “New” to create a new Policy
5.        Right Click the new created policy and select “Edit”
6.        Go to Policies and Administrative Templates, to confirm the new added template existing
7.        Back to Group Policy Management Console
8.        Right Click the new created policy and select “Import Settings”
9.        Click “Next” on first screen of Wizard, then click “Next” for Backup GPO step, because this is a new and blank policy we just create, so do not need to backup
10.        Copy the policy setting to local first, then in “Backup location” screen to select the location where we stored the settings intend to import, then click “Next”.
11.        It should have GPO detected and ask for you to select one to import, select then click “Next”.
12.        Click “Next” on Scan Result.
13.        Select “Copying them identically from the source, then click “Next”.
14.        Click “Finished”, and then click “OK”.
15.        Right Click the new created policy and select “Edit”.
16.        Verify the Policy value imported.
17.        Select the Computer Contained which we intend to link the new GPO, right click and select “Link an Existing GPO”.
18.        Select the policy then click “OK”.
